SP 800-185 Rev. 1, SHA-3 Derived Functions: cSHAKE, KMAC, TupleHash, and ParallelHashInitial Public Draft
NIST is soliciting public comments on a draft revision of SP 800-185 that adds streaming interfaces for SHA-3 derived functions like cSHAKE and KMAC.
This document is an initial public draft of NIST Special Publication 800-185 Revision 1, which introduces streaming interfaces for extendable-output function (XOF) computations. The revision updates Keccak-derived functions to describe a streaming mode of access using INIT, ABSORB, and SQUEEZE calls, allowing applications to process input and request output incrementally without knowing the total length in advance. The public comment period is open through December 7, 2026.
DIBs must track evolving cryptographic standards to ensure their systems use approved, secure algorithms that meet CMMC/NIST 800-171 requirements for cryptographic protection of information.
